HOTEL – CUSIPATA (BREAKFAST & LUNCH) – AUSANGATE GLACIERS – CUSCO
Our transportation will pick you up from your hotel or Airbnb between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. to begin the journey to the district of Cusipata, located south of Cusco. Along the way, you can relax while enjoying the stunning Andean landscapes as the sun rises.
After approximately 2 hours, we will arrive at a local restaurant where you’ll enjoy a buffet breakfast. This is also the perfect opportunity to purchase any last-minute items such as water, snacks, or anything you may have forgotten.
We will then continue by vehicle to Predio Ausangate, the starting point of our hike. As we get closer, the majestic Ausangate Mountain (6,384 m / 20,945 ft)—the highest peak in Cusco—will dominate the landscape alongside the snow-capped peaks of the Vilcanota Mountain Range.
The hike takes approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour, covering about 4 km (2.5 miles) round trip. The trail has a moderate incline, so we will walk at a comfortable pace, allowing everyone to adjust to the altitude while enjoying the scenery. Along the route, you’ll see impressive glaciers, small glacial lakes, and native Andean wildlife, including alpacas and llamas.
Upon reaching the Ausangate Glaciers, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the area, take photos, and admire the massive ice formations descending from the mountain. Depending on the season, you may also see Pucaqocha Lake, known for its distinctive reddish color.
After taking in this spectacular landscape, we will hike back along the same trail to our vehicle. We will then return to the restaurant to enjoy a buffet lunch featuring a variety of traditional regional dishes.
Finally, we will travel back to the city of Cusco, arriving at approximately 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., bringing to an end an unforgettable experience in one of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Vilcanota Mountain Range.
